LEGISLATION. ADVOCACY. MOBILIZATION.
We are a coalition of labor unions, healthcare providers, employers, community organizations, and social justice advocates committed to using our collective power to lower hospital prices.
The Coalition for Affordable Hospitals formed in New York in 2021 to address out-of-control hospital price increases. In 2022, the campaign expanded to New Jersey following double digit rate hikes to the State Health Benefit Plan. Our coalition works with legislators, advocates, employers, and experts to educate the public and elected officials on the impact of rising hospital prices and win solutions to the ongoing healthcare affordability crisis. We’re building a movement to make healthcare affordable and hospitals accountable to the patients they serve, because we know that high quality healthcare is possible without breaking the bank.
Why Hospital Pricing?
Hospital prices represent the most significant driver of healthcare costs. In the last 15 years, hospitals prices have risen 100%, while prices for housing and food have risen at half that rate. These unsustainable increases have far reaching downstream effects for patients, employers, payors, and governing bodies. Learn more about why our campaign is focusing on hospital prices here.
Legislation
Our campaign has a track record of delivering legislative victories at the state and city level. We are committed to addressing policy failures that have allowed prices to rise uncontrollably without any guardrails. Learn more about our current legislative priorities below.
Our Work
Advocacy
We believe no one should be priced out of essential care. Through strategic campaigns, policy advocacy, and public education, we’re challenging anti-competitive practices and pushing for reforms that make hospital care more affordable and equitable.
Mobilization
Through grassroots organizing, union partnerships, and community outreach, we mobilize patients, employers, workers, and advocates to take action and make hospital pricing а public priority. Have high and rising hospital prices impacted you? We invite you to share your story. Join us.
